Engage your students in a Lord of the Flies project that requires them to dive deeper into the text and hunt for symbolic details, both universal and specific to Lord of the Flies, with a mask project.
As your read or after you read chapter 4, assign this project to your students. Students will create a symbolic mask to represent Jack and his clay and charcoal face paint, chart their symbolic elements, and write about the change in Jack.
This resource includes a letter to the teacher to introduce the activity, an assignment handout with a mask template, a symbol tracker with a writing prompt, and a rubric.
This resource is also included in my Lord of the Flies Teaching Unit
