Task 1 CLOSE READ
Students complete a close read activity by answering multiple-choice questions.
Task 2 CHARACTERIZATION
Students match together characters with their correct descriptions and quotes.
Task 3 PLOT
Students sort seven different quotes from the novel along the plot diagram.
Task 4 SYMBOLISM
Students complete a brief word maze at the beginning of this task to learn about Lord of the Flies as an allegory. Then, students match up symbols to their meanings.
Task 5 FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE
Students answer multiple-choice questions about Golding’s use of figurative language.
Task 6 DECODE THE MESSAGE
Students use the Cipher Wheel or the Decoder to decode a secret message from Piggy from the book.
DURING THE ESCAPE
Students will complete six different Lord of the Flies tasks that rely on decoding, matching, sorting, multiple-choice questions, and unlocking a hidden message. This escape room is for novel review at the end of the unit.
