Digital Elements of Fiction Escape Room Activity – Distance Learning

Introduce your students to the elements of fiction, short stories, and literature with this fun and engaging digital Elements of Fiction Breakout Activity. This resource covers plot, conflict, setting, character and characterization, point-of-view, and theme. This resource runs on Google Forms.

This download includes teacher directions, two links (one for the assessment and one for the Google Forms escape room), and information about how to use Forms in the classroom.

BEFORE THE ESCAPE

This resource comes with a pre and post-assessment (same test) so that you can gauge your students’ understanding. This test is self-grading, except for the final question.

DURING THE ESCAPE

Students will complete seven different elements of fiction tasks. Most students should be able to complete the escape room in one 55-minute class period. The first task is an informational close read where students answer multiple-choice questions. From there, tasks 2-6 cover plot, setting, character and characterization, point-of-view, and theme. The final task is deciphering a coded message.

AFTER THE ESCAPE

Conclude the escape activity by reviewing the correct answers with your students and assigning the post-assessment to see what students learned.
