I always say it's all about the relationships but in these high need schools it is often thee most critical component. Sometimes, I was the only one these students would work with at school – not because I had a magic wand but because I had a relationship with them.

My classroom is at the end of the hallway in our building. Four teachers stand to greet students every day. Sometimes we sing, sometimes we dance, sometimes we just celebrate school. Kids think we're crazy, but we are building community. They look forward to our zany antics each day. I like your ideas. Thanks for sharing.

Really good points! It's tempting to making judgement about teens today, but it is challenging for them in many ways that it wasn't for their teachers. It's smart to form strong connections with them.

You have two outstanding ways here to make connections with students and really create a bond with them. I also like to greet my kids at the door each day and check in with them. It really gives you an idea of where they are coming from and what you may need to deal with that day. Thanks for a great post.
