You average 36 students per class? Holy Smokes! You must super organized in order to manage your classes and to grade all those papers.
I just love your easy grading system – and the way you transition students from bell ringers to literature lessons. Thanks for sharing.

In reply to Unknown. Maryann, yes! I walk around the room every day. I do this right in the beginning of class after I've taken attendance. I have 36 students in each of my classes, and I've done this with classes as large as 38 students. I have my room set up in rows, and I tackle two rows at a time as I walk down the aisles. It only takes about 2 minutes, and I get to see which students are struggling.

I like that your system "provided me with an opportunity to interact with every single student one-on-one each and every single day." While I expect all of my students to do the bell ringer, I've never stamped their work as they complete it. I'm wondering–do you walk around the room as they work? And is this manageable with a large class? It sounds like a good plan to me so I'm going to give it a try! Thanks!
